Hiking Volcanos National Park

We are staying at the Waikiki Bayon and like the outdoors, doing our own thing rather than going with tour groups. Hiking wise The Volcanos National Park looks the place to go. How far is this from Honolulu? Is there any regular bus service or are you better hiring a car? What would you allow for a round trip? Thx. Paul

Hawaii Volcano national park is on a different island - the Big island also known as Hawaii. Waikiki and Honolulu are on the island of Oahu. You would have to fly to the Big Island - Hilo is the city closest to VNP. :)

and, if you are going to spend time hiking and exploring at VNP I suggest you go for more than a day trip. People do fly on the 5:55 flight often from HNL to ITO and then return on the evening flight around 8:30 pm, but that is kind of pushing it for you if you are into self exploration and discovery.

Once you make up your mind to go to VNP I suggest staying at Volcano Village for a night or two. You can also stay at Hilo, but there is nothing like staying in a rainforest.

Good luck

Aloha Paul,

How long are you going to be in the state of Hawaii?

Oahu really has a lot to do.

Maybe you can pick up a good guide book like Frommer's.

Might be a good planning guide.
