Fishing Guide

We will be spending a couple days in July this year in Jackson to see the Grand Tetons before heading to Yellowstone to stay in the park for a few days. My husband is an avid fly fisherman and would like to take a half day morning trip with a guide. We would appreciate feedback on which companies or guides are the best in the area. He is interested in fishing the Snake, but we are open to hearing other suggestions. Or would it be best to wait until we are in Yellowstone and have a guide take him on a river in the park?

These are my 2 favorites, in order of preference:

Fly fishing in the Snake River is world class; better imo than in Yellowstone.

For fishing on the Snake, especially in July, I would definitely recommend using a guide. If your husband is bringing his fly-rod with him, there are lots of opportunities for fishing inside the park on his own. Just make sure he reads through the regulations on the YNP website.

Enjoy!

Another choice in Jackson

Snake River stays in runnoff conditions much later than most. Usually is into July before the Snake river starts fishing good. Stay flexible on depending on where the fishing is hot.

You can do float trips on the snake inside Grand Teton (scenic and good fishing). In Yellowstone only wade trips except on Lake Yellowstone.

West Yellowstone has many good fly shops. Blue Ribbon Flies, Bud Lillys, Bob Jacklins, Aricks and others.

You can also do float trips outside the west entrance, Madison, Gallatin and Henry's Fork.

TetonBill, thank you for your suggestions. I am a little confused about Jack Dennis. There appear to be two shops in Jackson. Can you shed any light on that? Thanks again!

Hi,

The Jack Dennis Store was bought out but he got to keep the guide services. The person - Jack Dennis is no longer in the valley to my knowledge.

The store, Jack Dennis has a fly shop/guide service inside called High Country Flies. Confusing? Yep. Ask for Brad at High Country. He'll help you out but its best to deal w/that conversation a week out or so b/c there is no way to tell what the conditions will be etc., unless you are only inquiring about pricing and want to be sure you reserve a guide regardless.
