Don't know which hotel to book

Hi all

We're thinking of going to Jackson for 2 weeks in Feb/March. Not been before so could do with some advice.

The hotels we have in mind are the Ranch Inn and the Snow King, any information from anyone who has stayed at either hotel would be useful, I'd also like to know how far it is to the ski lifts, (apparently Snow King is ski in ski out).

Hoping to book in the new few days so any help would be appreciated.

Hi -

Snow King is ski in ski out for Snow King, but not the big Jackson Hole Mountain Resort located at Teton Village, about 20 minutes away. It is an older hotel and recently under new ownership, although no major changes as of yet.

The Ranch Inn is located in the heart of the Town of Jackson.

I've stayed in both and prefer the Ranch Hotel only b/c I appreciate a deck and being able to walk everywhere. Snow King isn't that far from town, and there is public transportation, but it winter weather, where snow and ice can narrow the streets, walking can be dangerous where there are no sidewalks, like town.

I have stayed at Snow King a couple of times, but primarily out of necessity as they used to take pets (not sure if they still do with the new owners) but would definitely prefer to stay closer to the middle of town when possible. Jackson is a great town to just get out for a walk, shopping, morning coffee etc.

Thank you both for your replies, the tour operator who is offering us the best price is suggesting The Lodge, any thoughts on that one? Can't believe the cost of lift passes, we've been quoted nearly £600 each.

Yep, lift tickets are very expensive. Its not like Jackson has a lot of nearby competition that can keep costs down like Colorado Resorts.

The Lodge is very nice, but not directly in town - a bit South. If being in town is important, stick w/the Rancher.

if you think Jackson's lift tickets are spendy, and if you have a vehicle, take a trip over to Targhee. The lift tickets are less expensive and the snow is often better.

Thanks for your response, Is there anything to do within walking distance of the hotel? ie bars, restaurants etc. Can you walk into Jackson from the hotel or is it too far?

Which hotel did you choose? You never said. If in town (The Ranch Inn( there are plenty of bars and restaurants to choose from - Cowboy Bar, The Wort Hotel, The Garage .. to name a few. The other two are not so close, given the weather, you'll want to use public transportation, cab or your own ride.

We stay at the Snake River Lodge. We have children so it is great for them, because there is a nice pool and a lot of activities around the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. Also has a spa for adults. Lots of restaurants are within walking distance. Hotel is ski in-ski out and the JMR ski school is conveniently located behind the hotel. We usually drive into town for an evening or two A vacation to Jackson is not cheap, but very worth it.
