Help! What to do - 83 y.o. Dad and 3 adult daughters??

Every year my 83 y.o. dad takes his 3 adult daughters on a trip. This year we chose Jackson, WY. We are not hikers...and are looking for suggestions of things to do (July) - we love museums, anything cultural, vegetarian restaurant recommendations (we need restaurants that have both veggie food and regular food for Dad...

Where can we go horseback-trailriding that is very safe for beginners?

What about Fly Fishing for just a few hours - dad's wish! We're not sure about the fly fishing but Dad really wants to go! We need some recommendations - thanks!!

Nice lunch places? Dinner places? We are staying at the Wyoming Inn but we do have a car. Is there parking available all the time downtown?

How far to Yellowstone and worth the drive??

Thanks soo much for any and all help with our July trip!

Best regards from Atlanta,

There is a lot to do in Jackson. Visit Teton Nat Park, drive up to Yellowstone, yes it is worth it, fishing, hiking, photography, horseback riding, rafting.

Visit nps.gov for the national parks and more info.

Search this forum for tons of great info

Search TA for reviews of places.

Google Jackson WY

Have fun planning.

Three cheers for your dad! Not many guys his age can do what he wants to do.

I don't know anything about fishing in GTNP, but in Yellowstone. just get a fishing permit at a ranger station and have at it. Beautiful rivers to fish in right beside the roads. Yellowstone is about an hour and a half up the highway from Jackson, as memory serves me. It is very much worth the drive and at least a night or two in the park if you can get reservations.

In the Tetons, you could take him on a raft trip down the Snake River in the park. No whitewater, beautiful views of the mountains.

I agree that you should take a float trip on the river, horseback riding ...you might want to look at Spring Creek Ranch, and then eat lunch at the Granary up there which has beautiful views. If you don't like hiking, go to the GTNP and head to Jenny Lake. You can take a short boat across. It will be crowded in that area in July, but very beautiful. Eat at Dornan's on your way out of the park in Moose. The actual town of Jackson is small. There are many galleries around for you to visit, but this will be for an afternoon or two. Restaurant suggestions, Snake River Grill, Rendezvous Bistro, Nikai, Koshu and Trio are some popular ones. Go to Whole Grocer Supermarket to stock up on Natural/Organics. Fishing Guides. Try World Cast Anglers, or West Bank Anglers. Have Fun!

"How far to Yellowstone and worth the drive??"

An easy short drive north into YNP. I seriously cannot believe the 2nd part of your question. Go to: http://www.nps.gov/yell/ Study that and then decide. Plan on easy, if warm, walks through the fascinating thermal areas, parking and relaxing (with cooler for beverages and snacks) in the valleys where you can see wildlife. It's everywhere. If you see folks with spotting scopes, they will be glad to let you look. Perhaps this will be an interesting, albeit easy, way to experience "wilderness".

Fly fishing for a few hours? If that's all he can do, great for him, especially at his age. I don't know what a few hours means, but fly fishers can easily spend 3+ hours if able. And the area is so beautiful, he might find wildlife as neighbors.

Have a great trip.
