Non Water Park Accommodation Recommendations

My husband and I, along with another couple, are coming to the Dells in September for a classic car cruise event and will be staying for 3 nights. The Chula Vista resort is the host hotel, but it appears that their hotel rooms (according to TA reviews) are not recommended and the layout of their condo units are more appropriate for families (2 queen beds in the same room plus a loft bedroom and no doors anywhere?) We would like rooms with king sized beds and are not interested in using a water park (and would rather not be surrounded by families with kids heading to the water parks.) Can anyone recommend resorts or B&B's which would be not too far from Chula Vista and fit our needs?

I like the Black Hawk Motel. They are quiet. They have many room types. Regular kings and queens and some with whirlpools. They have a pool and stuff, but it's not nearly as crowded as at a waterpark. They are rated # 1 for the Dells and are very well priced.

The two bedroom condo we stayed in at Chula Vista a couple years ago was actually very nice, and definitely had doors on the bedrooms and bathrooms:) That said, it was probably better laid out for a family, as one bedroom had a king size bed, and the other two queens. The condo was located across the parking lot from the waterparks (although they are connected by an underground walkway), so noise and hubbub from the waterpark did not disturb us in the condo at all.

We stayed at the Black Hawk earlier this week, and it lives up to its good reviews here on TripAdvisor. They have limited numbers of rooms with king size beds, and are very busy on week ends, so reserve as soon as possible.

Indian Trail Motel across the street is a good alternative to the Black Hawk, and some of the locally owned motels on the strip are also nice, such as the Pine Dell, and the Shamrock. The Monaco Motel's rooms are a little dated, but clean and reasonably priced. You will find lots of families at all these places though, so expect it. Hope you have a good trip!

How are the mattresses at the Blackhawk? Two of us in our group have had back surgeries and need a comfortable but supportive bed.

Thanks for your response!

Not sure how any one can answer such a subjective question. And we have only stayed in two out of dozens of rooms. But we can say we have NEVER had an old, broken down, sagging in the middle, mattress at the Black Hawk.

I've been looking at the reviews of the Cedar Lodge which looks quite promising. Any feedback on them would be appreciated!

Haven't stayed at Cedar, but it looks very nice. Just a comment that you would be staying on the other side of the Dells from Chula and would need to drive through the downtown Dells from one place to the other. During the week it's probably no big deal, but if it is the weekend of WhoZaWa in September it could be a pain.

We'll be there the weekend of September 27-29. Would you know the dates of WhoZaWa (and I'm dying to know what that is!)
