parking/sightseeing in city

never been to milwaukee - plan to be here on may 3 and 4. would we be better off staying downtown or outside city? thinking of booking at either bestwestern inn towne hotel or bestwestern woodside inn. are these hotels ok? if we stay outside of city, how is it to drive in and park. is there much to do downtown? any other touring suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Stay downtown. Milwaukee has a lot to offer in its safe downtown area. Click on the "top destinations" list on the milw home page. The Best Western InnTown is a nice place for the money. The Woods View is close to downtown, but in an unmemorable, residential area. Look into the Residence Inn (downtown) or the Hilton or the Hyatt. You can get a good price for both Hilton and Hyatt on Hotwire. If you stay at the Inn Towne you will probably pay to park your car across the street in the mall's parking structure. Hilton and Hyatt have their own parking structures.

The weather in May can still be iffy. It all depends on the direction of the lake breeze. Prepare for anything!

If you give a little more information about your interests you can get more responses about what you might like to do in Milwaukee. Also, let us know if you are traveling as a family, solo, couple, etc.

The Best Western Woods View is across the street from the VA hospital. It is in a convenient area for getting around the city, but I am not sure it is the best location for basing your Milwaukee stay.

The Best Western Inn Towne is a good budget choice for downtown.

If you are not familiar with the hotel reviews on TA, you can type the name of a hotel into the search box to the upper left of this screen and read reviews from people who have stayed at your hotel of interest.

I think staying downtown is great, especially if you are interested in the great restaurants and downtown night life. If you are traveling as a family and you want amenities like a nice pool you might think about styaying outside of downtown. Milwaukee is relatively easy to get around, so parking is less expensive and driving is easier than in a lot of larger cities.

Think about taking in a Brewers game if they are in town while you are here. You can find more info about Milwaukee at www.onmilwaukee.com and www.shepherd-express.com.

Best Western Inn Towne was nasty. We stayed there a few years ago when we were downtown for German Fest. There are a lot of other nicer hotels downtown...I'd stay away from that one though.
