Where to stay for Lighthouse Walk in June 09?

Myself and a few other adults will be coming to Door County for the first time in 06/2009 for the Lighthouse Walk. Could anyone please recommend a few places to stay? Looking for a 3 night stay from Friday-Sunday (need at least double bed room, but are kind of interested in a suite). Would like something that would put us in the most central location to tour the lighthouses. Also, I'm sure we'll be doing some shopping and dining out as well, so if any of the towns in Door county would be best for that please let me know. thanks

Love this place

I don't know if they rent by the weekend in June, could be weekly only. They are very nice and very easy to work with. Check with them.

The place is beautiful.

The Church Hill in is nice in Sister Bay.

I think anywhere in the area is ok to tour light houses, as you will have to drive to them anyway. The area offers so much.

Egg Harbor, while it has no lighthouses, is a central location 13 miles from Sturgeon Bay, 13 miles from Sister Bay, and 10 miles from Bailey's Harbor. You will be driving to the lighthouses, go to www.dcmm.org for info. Use www.doorcounty.com for county info.

Thanks everyone for the input. I just received the 2009 Door county vacation planner in the mail yesterday.

It does appear that Egg Harbor would be centrally located. Going through the vacation planner there & reading around TripAdvisor there appears to be 3 resort that would meet our needs:

1- The Landing Resort

2- Newport Resort

3- The Landmark Resort

Could anyone offer any information - good or bad - about those resorts? thanks

Sure- They are all good resorts, all well equipped vacation condos. You will also find many nice small, comfortable, and clean family motels in Door County and Egg Harbor, all of which would meet the needs you have described.

I would pick the Newport. Two bed,two bath condo units with huge indoor and outdoor pools and walking distance to some good dining, Trio for dinner and Village Cafe which has one of the best breakfast menus in Door County.

Thanks for all the posts. We ended up booking a stay at the The Hilltop Inn in Fish Creek based on a relative's recommendation of that property and also because they said it's close to Peninsula State Park. I've made reservations at White Gull Inn for a fish boil dinner, and ordered our Lighthouse Walk tickets. We can't wait to go! I will post a review when we come back.

Have a great trip, cannot wait to hear your review.

Don't expect too much at the Fish Boil. It is just boiled fish. It is the experience that most people go for. The fish is not that good really.

Although some people think it is, but it is not how I like fish prepared.

don't forget about the

Stones Throw Winery

Sorry it's taken me this long to post back about our trip - life has been REALLY busy lately. We had a great time in Door County for the Lighthouse Walk. It is a very beautiful area and the drive over and onto the peninsula is wonderful. We arrived earlier than planned so we drove up and down the water a bit from Egg Harbor up to Ephraim before checking into our hotel in Fish Creek. I love how close the towns are and that you can easily drive back and forth with no problems. Our hotel was very nice in Fish Creek and we really enjoyed doing the Fish Boil experience. I was able to get away and do some shopping on Sunday and I feel that Fish Creek is the best place for that. I think Ephraim has the best water views by far out of all the towns - we are hoping to stay here next time we come. (by the way - how do you pronouce Ephraim? we heard a few different versions while we were there!) Al Johnson's restaurant is A MUST SEE! We have great pictures of the goats on the roof and the food was EXCELLENT. The crew and the volunteers of the Maritime Museum put on a wonderful Lighthouse Walk and I actually got to meet and have a very nice conversation with the executive director. The only drawback was that the Lighthouses themselves were not up to the standards that I'm used to. I actually thought Eagle Bluff was the nicest. We did climb the tower at Cana Island and the views are nice. But I do feel that lighthouses in Maine & Michigan are more well preserved and are more classic. All in all we had a great time and we are planning a return trip for next year!!
