Never been to either but can't decide. This would be a trip for my husband's birthday.
Obviously, we in West Virginia are partial to the Greenbrier Resort. But the Homestead is also a beautiful resort. I think it all depends on your interests. Both have world-class golf courses, fine dining, and famous spas. The Greenbrier has an upscale casino and, of course, the opportunity to tour the "bunker." If either of those interest you, then the Greenbrier may be your best choice.
Good luck. I don't think you can go wrong either way.
I think if you like outdoor activities such as hiking or scenic drives, you will find better options around the Greenbrier. Cass and Snowshoe are not too far away, and a tour of the radio telescopes is neat at Green Bank if you are into nerdy science stuff.
Homestead has a little ski hill there, but no idea when you are going, and how well they are faring with the mild winter we have been having. I hear skiing at Snowshoe is good considering the weather.
Thanks for your feedback. We are going in May. Do you know which place have bigger rooms. This is a little splurge for a big birthday for my husband. We do like Casino's, spas, to swim and just to relax. I did see at the Homestead I think they have the springs you can soak in. Hard decision.
We are also considering the Greenbriar. Did you make a decision?
For what your husband wants, you should choose the greenbrier. The homestead is the romantic getaway while the greenbrier is getaway of fun. Many more activities and many more options at the greenbrier by far
I'd be curious to see which one you chose. Either way, please post a trip report when you get back so that we know more about the resort you chose.
I have been to the Greenbrier three times and enjoyed each visit. One trip was in the winter with snow on the ground. I went to Homestead once. I would highly recommend Greenbrier. It's a great resort.
We are going to the Homestead in two weeks. The Greenbriar was much more expensive and booked. We are only going for two days so I am sure there will be plenty to do. I will write a trip report when I return.
