Short stay in Tacoma

We are going to take the Amtrak Casdaes to Tacoma arriving at noon from Portland and returning to Portland at 3 or 6 pm the same day depending on what there is to do. Would like some suggestions on what there is to see or do around the station area as we have such a short time. We are staying in Portland for a few days in mid Nov. and just want to take a train ride. Any advise would be greatly appreciated

I would stay aboard a few minutes longer and get off in Seattle.

I'm still chuckling at Goodbeer's response. However, if you Google the Tacoma/Pierce County chamber of commerce, you'll find interesting things at the Museum of Glass, the Art Museum (new) and the Historical museum, all fairly near each other. If you do go to Seattle, true, much to see and do near the RR station, including Pioneer Square, the waterfront, the aquarium, et al.

Take the LINK Light Rail into Downtown. It is only a block or 2 from the Amrak station. The LINK is free. Take it into Downtown and get off at the 19th St./Union Station stop. There you will find the UWT, shops, restaurants, and museums. Make sure you walk across the Chihuly Bridge of Glass. You can get there by walk throught the arch of the Washington State History Museum. Crossing the Bridge of Glass will take you to The Museum of Glass and The Thea Foss Waterway Esplanade.

While around the UWT area there are a few great places to eat.

Inodchine, 21Commerce, Harmon Brewery, Two Koi, Blue Olive, El Gaucho, Melting Pot, and Pacific Grill. Treat yourselves.

The great thing is the LINK is free and will take you through Downtown. In Seattle you will be walking a while to get to the attractions or taking the bus or taking a taxi.

Thanks for the advise everyone. We were just in Seattle a few weeks ago to see "Wicked" the musical and we stayed at the Pioneer Square Hotel. Spent a couple of days doing the tourist thing and you are right, there was a lot to do. We are just doing Tacoma for the train ride so sounds like there are a few things to keep us busy for 3 or 4 hours. Thanks Again
