We drove up from Oregon purposely for this experience~absolutely LAME and unprofessional set up. They wanted you to park as far away from the resort as possible and then GUESS your way to the outdoor venue; no placards or signs pointing the way, so we wandered around the property lost until we asked an employee for directions. Saw the same thing happen to another couple and an elderly woman on a walker!
Arrived anticipating lunch when they opened at 11:30; they were still setting up so we were asked to wait. You would think FOOD & WINE go hand in hand but whomever provided the catering (I'm guessing Sleeping Lady) could only come up with hamburgers and hotdogs! If you call a boiled hotdog Kobe and throw gelatinous onions over it with dijon mustard and fake it to look 'gourmet', we're talking scary and gross! Disgusting! Plus, the big menu posted in front of the food stand said $3 for hotdogs but when it came time to pay and was charged $6 and mentioned the price difference, "Oh, they haven't changed it yet?". The 'chef' wiped his face off with a cloth napkin, set it down next to the cutting board and proceeded to slice the hotdog bun with the same plastic gloves he had on....GROSS! They were indifferent, unprepared, and ill-equipped.
We were also assuming it was a non-smoking venue and along comes one of their sound system staff who started up a cigarette right in front of the seated crowd trying to enjoy the music (& wine!)when it finally started. The testing and sound were still not in place until almost an hour into the Festival.
All in all, for $30 per person or $50 per couple, stay in town and enjoy the wine tasting/wineries that give you more bang for the buck. We couldn't even get a glass of wine! However, they announced that this was the first year you could actually purchase and decant a bottle to enjoy on the premises. That's a start anyways. This is a forgettable festival until they get their act and FOOD together!!! Chicken kabobs? Schnitzel? Yummy desserts? Wine by the glass???
