Today, while listening to CBC British Columbia, they were reporting on the Costco issue (rude Canucks being obnoxious in the Bellingham Costco) and the reporter and announcer both pronounced it "Belling - em" (like one would pronounce Birmingham - Birming'em. Sounded like "Belling the Cat" - "you're belling 'em, are you?"
Surely the proper way to pronounce it is Belling-ham, isn't it? I grew up in the Lower Mainland and of course took many trips down to Watcom Cty as a kid, surely we haven't been mispronouncing it all these years!?
