Is there any place to stock up on provisions before getting on the ferry to Alaska? We won't have a car so will need to be walkable. Thanks!
Sute, there is a Haggens (a full scale grocery store not just a corner market) a couple of blocks up from the terminal. Just go up the hill 'till you get past Dos Padres (restaurant) turn right and it is just past the hamburger stand.
Have you been on the ferry before as a walk on? I ask because it is quite the jostle and run to get a good spot.
Thanks for the info. First trip on ferry and don't know what to expect. We do have a room, as we are of an age but one of us is very picky about food, so thought it would be good to lay in some provisions. Thanks again for the reply.
No worries, I hope you have a good trip. The food on board is decent - cafeteria style for the most part - but decently made with decent ingredients. But stocking up on things you know you will like is a good idea - it would be a long trip without it. If you like chocolate - Haggens has a fantastic selection of gourmet chocolate bars.
You might want to check about what you can bring onboard fruit wise - since the ferry stops in Prince Rupert. We can't bring it across in cars.
