Family of 6 vacation to DC

We have a large family and are trying to save a little money on a DC vacation staying a little farther out. I got two comperable place one in Manassas and one in Woodbridge. Any opinions on which would be the better choice? Are they both nice areas?

It depends on which parts of each place!

Manassas has a lot of civil war and historical landmarks. One very quaint area of "old town" main street. If coming in the summer, there is a very affordable waterpark in Manassas. Other then that, Manassas is a little run down.

Woodbridge has the huge Potomac Mills Mall, better parks and is on the Potmac River. The historic town of Occoquan is closer to Woodbridge. The Marine Corps museum and routes to DC are also on the Woodbridge end of the county.

Good Luck! Ask if yyou need more info.!

I'd like to ask how much time you want to spend in the city of DC during your vacation. The traffic in this area is some of the worst in the nation, and the commute from both Manassas and Woodbridge are pretty awful (I did the commute from Woodbridge for three years before moving closer to the city.) If you plan on taking the Metro from the closest stations (Vienna for Manassas, Franconia-Springfield for Woodbridge) the parking lots tend to fill up early. You can take the VRE from both locations but it only runs on weekdays during rush hour. If you plan on spending most of your time seeing the sights in Northern Va., that's fine, but if you are intent in seeing mostly DC attractions you will be cursing our traffic just like the rest of us.
