General advice for upcoming visit to CW

My DH and I are quickly planning a trip to Williamsburg to replace an Alaskan cruise that was cancelled just 10 days prior to sailing. We are interested in all the historical sites but don't care anything about BG or the water park. Suggestions for combination ticket packages? What about parking at these sites? Any experiences at Governor's Inn? How many days should we allow?

For the option that costs the least, choose on-line three-day ticket to CW for $45.95 plus the Four-site Value ticket for $30.50 from historyisfun.org good for 7 days at both Jamestown and both Yorktown sites. For ease of purchase, get the Historic Triangle ticket at the CW website for $83.50, good at all 5 sites for 7 days.

CW's Visitor Center has a vast parking lot, and from there you can walk to the Historic Area or take a shuttle. There is ample parking at the other four sites as well, and you can take a shuttle from CWs Visitors Center to Jamestown and to Yorktown.

I'd say at a minimum two days at CW, 1 day at the Yorktown sites, and 1 day at the Jamestown sites. If you have the time, add a day at CW and an additional day to use as you wish. Before we moved here, we'd generally spend 5 or 6 days in the area, plus a travel day at each end of the week.

The Governor's Inn is clean and basic. I've had family and friends stay there and like it, but it's older and can look a bit tired. The Woodlands is newer and right next to the Visitors Center, and the Lodge is just a block or so from the heart of the "Revolutionary City" (Historic Area).

Zoey's advice is good, provided you wish to visit Jamestown Settlement and the Yorktown Victory Center. The national park sites can be visited for less cost and the tickets are good for a week.

The seven day Triangle ticket is a good value to see all the sites. We often return to specific events each day at CW over a seven day period as programming varies each day on a weekly rotation. You may also wish to return to places like the coffeehouse, palace, Capitol, Great Hopes or some of the trade shops later in the week if you liked a presenter or enjoyed a topic and wish to learn more by visiting again.
