anytime the caves are open I like the summer when the cool cave temp is a nice break from the heat above ground

Thank you for the info. Would it be very cold in February? We're planning to visit on our way back from Florida, but are concerned we'll be wasting our time if it's too cold.

The underground temp in Virginia caverns averages around 55° regardless of the time of year. So a nice cool visit in the summer, and a nice "warm-up" in winter.

When we visited Luray, it was in the 50's (80's outside) and we were told this is constant. So, not sure that the season really matters. I would guess the caverns are not as crowded in the winter unlike the hour + lines in July.
