Day trips

I am coming to Roanoke November 20-23 and will have two days to do the tourist thing. I was wondering if anyone had suggestions for any day trips? I travel to Roanoke frequently and have utilized Trip Advisor to do things locally. I would like to venture out to see some other things. I noticed Monticello is about a 2 hour trip which I would make to see this lovely place again. Any other day trip suggestions? I would prefer for 2 hours to be the farthest. I like historical places, museums, wineries, musical venues, etc. I'm up for any suggestions!

Thanks so much!

Lexington is an excellent day trip. It has several museums associated with Washington and Lee and VMI. .

Lee Chapel is worth the visit as well as the two on VMI property. There are several nice restaurants and

art galleries in town.

Less than 45 minutes from Roanoke is Bedford, home of the National D-Day Memorial. It's an interesting and beautiful monument with knowledgable tour guides. I visited in Feb. (very cold!) and wrote a review, check it out under Bedford attractions. Bedford is also in the shadow of the scenic Peaks of Otter and Blue Ridge Parkway. Happy trails.

Near Staunton is the Frontier Culture Museum.

A good winery to visit is Chateau Morrisette in Floyd. Villa Appalaccia and AmRhein would also be close by. You're also close to Pembroke, VA, home to Mountain Lake, the place where "Dirty Dancing" was filmed.
