Eldorado or Lahaina Shores?

We have narrowed it down to these two but as we wont be hiring a car, wondering which one would be best if we are going to walk everywhere...any help would be greatly appreciated.

Definitely lahaina shores. You'll be right on front st and within walking distance of almost anything you'll need.

I have stayed at the Lahaina Shores a couple of years ago & quite enjoyed it. We had an ocean front room. There is no bar or restaurant in the hotel. the pool is small & there is a lawn area leading through a gate to the narrow beach. There is a small centre next door with a little store ( I think it was a Whalers), a bar & a couple places to eat etc. It's just then a few minutes walk right up the road to the main Lahaina centre with all the other eateries & shops. The Safeways is at the other end of town so a fair walk if you have heavy groceries. We plan to stay there next time we go to the island.

Well, the El Dorado is a bit up the hill, above the golf course from the beach, but there are trolleys and shutltes. If you are not ocean swimmers or beach flopper's, just want to enjoy the view from the lanai kinda folks, Lahaina Shores will suit you well, especialy if you don't plan to rent a car..

Just be aware that in summer months it will be HOT in Lahaina.

I wish we could split the week between the two of them but there is a 5 day minimum stay apart from the fact that we would have to pay 2 cleaning fees of $150 so will probably go with Lahaina shores....thanks guys.

We've stayed at Lahaina Shores and if you won't have a car, that location would be the best of the two choices mentioned. You'll be located at the southern end of Lahaina and can walk anywhere in town. There are some bus options to get you north to Kaanapali fairly easily. Public transportation to the southern part of Maui is time consuming and somewhat challenging, but it can be done.

As Mama points out, it'll be hot in Lahaina in the summer so be prepared for that.

The units in Lahaina Shores are individually owned and maintained, so be sure you know what you're getting by checking them out at VRBO. Some have been maintained better than others.

I'd urge you to consider renting a car. Virtually all visitors to Maui do so. It's usually less expensive than the cost of getting to and from the airport plus taking tours -- and you can explore beaches, restaurants, shops and sightsee on your own. Driving Maui is very, very easy.

No car + walk to restaurants and shops = Lahaina Shores.

No car + beach = Eldorado.

Sounds like Lahaina Shores is the answer for you. Plus it has central air conditioning. Pacifico restaurant and Feast of Lele are absolutly next door and ocean front.

Thank you - we are a retired couple from New Zealand and would be nervous about driving there as we drive on the left hand side of the road so better to stay safe and either walk or bus...Looks like Lahaina Shores it it unless anyone has any suggestions..

I would stick to Lahaina as you can shuttle to the beach, everything else is right there. You can also catch a shuttle from/to the airport.

Well................I disagree totally! First of all, the condos at the Eldorado are far larger and better built than Lahaina Shores. Second, all the Eldorado units have full central AC. Third, the area is much, much prettier than the scrub and dry weeds down in Lahaina town.

Lahaina town is fun to visit and yes--even to live or stay in--if you have been here or are never going to enjoy a huge long beach like Kaanapali. Riding the bus out to other areas will be time consuming and tedious.

The Eldorado is across the street from a strip center that has a huge (3000SF) Whaler's Store with food, drink, prepared foods, etc, plus there are four restaurants there and also a very good coffee shop. Down the hill lies the "main drag" of Kaanapali, with Whaler's Village-multiple restaurants and shops there. Plus, the hotels all have places to eat, drink, and are fun to wander through.

The Eldorado is on the free Kaanapali Trolley route, which will be a huge bonus. An airport shuttle to/from the Eldorado will only cost about 10.00 per person more than Lahaina Shores.
