Get a Rogers calling card. I use my Rogers calling card plus, and was pleasantly suprised how inexpensive calls were. The least expensive (free) if you bring a laptop and have internet access is skype.
We bought a pre-paid phone card in Maui. At a convenience store. Not the ones found in Safeway, or grocery stores, but smaller stores found in various plazas in Lahaina or Kihei, etc. I bought one for $5 and it had something like 200 minutes to call to Canada.
(You can also buy phone cards in Toronto from convenience stores. They have a few choices like GOLD, CiCi phone card, in denominations of $5, $10. And they also have good rates to call out to USA/Canada, England. They do expire 6 months from your first use.)
i use my cell phone and it doesnt have a roaming charge
Buying phone cards seem to be the better option-calling on your cellphone to Canada may be very expensive. You may not have roaming charge, you willpay for long distance calls. Well, that is my experience, using a Verizon from Canada to the States.
