Loved JVD - Now What?!

My husband and I had a WONDERFUL time at the White Bay Villas on JVD. We'd like to try somewhere new. We love the laid back atmosphere, and lack of commercialism of the Island. We love to have a few cocktails and watch the sunset. Is there anywhere else in the Carribean that can compare?

Anegada would appeal to you. Can't get more laid back,no commercialism at all great sunsets, fabulous beaches. You would probably also like Anguilla, stay on Shoal Bay East for best sunsets and great laid back local beach bars.

Never been there, but I hear that Culebra and Vieques, small islands between Puerto Rico and the USVI's are similar to JVD.

Out islands in Bahamas have that feel. Try Eleuthera, or Abacos or Exumas, even Long Island.

Grand Turk has the type of atmosphere, and especially North Caicos.

Palm Island in St. Vincent and Grenadines probably comes closest.

Anguilla might be another great choice.

Haven't found the perfect place yet? Feeling that there must be something more? Want to try something new? The very best way to do it

Charter a Catamaran on Tortola from Moorings, Sunsail, or one of the other companies. Sail to all of the British Virgin Islands and explore all of the little bays that abound.

After doing that we found three places and returned to them all on subsequent vacations: Marina Cay Hotel with Pusser's Restaurant

Cooper Island Beach Club on Cooper Island and the best of all was on Jost Van Dyke on White Bay -- Sandcastle Hotel. There are six rooms total. Two are Beach front Cottages, two are Beach Garden Cottages and two are Garden Rooms. Check out their Website: Sandcastle-BVI.com to see details. We have been back six times (every February). They provide maid service, a 4 course gourmet dinner, and a Full Breakfast each morning. For a break there are other restaurants in Great Harbor (a 5 minute taxi ride or a 30 minute walk). I heartily recommend going into Great Harbor for the variety and to see the many Yachts (sailboats) that converge each evening for dinner and dancing at Foxy's. Other restaurants also provide good delicious food.

The best lunch on the Island can be found at The Soggy Dollar Bar (part of Sandcastle Hotel) or Tabu (a Foxy's outpost near the Bubbly Pool on the north end of the island.

For a more crowded experience (and less expensive) try Maho Bay Campground on St. Johns, USVI

My favorite was Sandcastle...soon I am going to the Grenadines and hope to like them as well. Other very favorites are Ladera and Anse Chastenet in St lucia...Cap Jaluca in Anguilla...Sugar Mill in Tortola...and Bitter End and biras creek in Virgin Gorda.
