Couple of q's before we arrive

Hi folks

Off to Correlejo for the first time on Saturday and just got a couple of questions before we arrive please:

Just to help with packing will I need a cardi, wrap or jacket at night?

Looks hot during the day, is it breezy?

We're looking to do a fair bit of walking, hire a bike, go to Los Lobos island, the sand dunes, what else would you recommend?

Many thanks for your help.

Hi,take a cardie/wrap in case you feel chilled after the hot days in the sunshine. It was reported as being very hot there today so any breeze will be very welcome.

Certainly walk the shoreline to the 2 Riu hotels & beyond-lovely coastline. As a rough guide from Waikiki to the first Riu (Tres Islas) takes around 50 mins. A few beach bars scattered around but we always take frozen water on our treks.

You can also in the direction of the wind turbines on the dirt track & that leads to Majanicho & iltimately El Cotillo (13 miles away) but is very boring that way. So take the local cheap bus (no 8) to El Cotillo lagoons & spend a few hours there. Lovely beach one side & lagoons the other side of the harbour.

Los Lobos is 15 euros pp on the glass bottom boat or water taxi & takes 20 mins or so. Walk around the island (10 miles) & have a few cheap beers in the lagoon at the end-very welcome indeed!

You could also visit Caleta de Fuste via Rosario on the local buses-cheap enough.

Thank you so much for your speedy and helpful response Scarletrugby - much appreciated. The lagoons sound lovely, we'll definitely go there.

No probs, hope you enjoy Corralejo as much as so many of us do. In all our visits over many years we've never gone to Oasis Park.We intend to this next visit (coming soon) as we're there for 5 weeks & if we don't go now we never will! There's a free bus to OP from Corralejo & we'll be on it this time!

ENJOY!

Hire a car and tour the island

Visit Betancuria (the old Capital).

Stop at Morro Velossa for stunning views (providing the Calima has cleared)

Head to Ajuy on the west coast and see the oldest rocks in the Canary Islands, walk on the coastal path the the caves, where pirates used to land before sacking local villages.

Stop off for lovely cake in Pajara opposite the church.

Head down south and visit the stunning beaches, eat fresh fish at a Chiringuito (beach bar), walk the 4km beach in Morro Jable/Jandia.

Drive the bone jingling dirt road journey over to Cofete and stop at Villa Winter (they say at the end of WW2 senior Nazi figures hauled up here and had facial reconstructive surgery before heading over to S.America - all speculation of course).

Visit Oasis Park

Watch the wind and kitesurfers in Sotavento (just south of Costa Calma).

If you enjoy walking, then I'd highly recommend doing this either earlier in the morning (pre 11.30am) or late afternoon (after 4.30pm) - the sun is high and strong and current UV index is very high.

There is a Calima at the moment (dust laden super heated winds from the Sahara), unfortunately! :( Do not walk in a Calima - you may end up with breathing/lung problems given there is a lot of dirt and sand in the air.....

Whatever you end up doing whilst you're in Fuerte - I hope you have a superb time!!!!! :)
