Visiting Norfolk ----safest area to Stay affordably

Visiting Norfolk in a month...need to book a motel. Prefer walking rather than cabs. Want to see Nauticus and Museums and yummy food. May be my only trip there ever and love the historical aspect as well...somewhat affordably I am hoping. Motel Lodging was not originaly planned into trip, but that plan fell through so now I need to find one. Connecting with my son who is on business there for a few weeks. I am coming for a long weekend from the west side of the US.

Ideally then you want to stay at one of these: Marriott Waterfront, Sheraton Waterfront, Marriott Courtyard, or Radisson. Radisson is furthest from the sites you plan to visit. All the others are in walking distance and in easy walking distance of good places to eat and shop. There are also a few B&Bs in the area. Check this website:

If these hotels don't work out for you, avoid hotels near the airport or along Military Highway (rule of thumb - but there may be some good options in there). You could look at hotels along the Norfolk - Virginia Beach border (around Newtown Road, Cleveland St, Bonney Rd, and Euclid). You would definitely have to rely on cabs or buses.

Post again when you have more questions.
