Ischia or Capri?

We are traveling to the Amalfi Coast late September. Will do either Capri or Ischia for 2 or 3 nightes before heading over to Positano. Can anyone tell me key differences and preferences between the two to help make our decision? thank you.

Not sure that this place quite fits your first request, but so often it's what people jump for when all sorts of others have been trailed in front of them - so, in a new approach from me, here it is first!

Up on the Castello Aragonese islet....

Wow it is beautifl! I was also looking into Mezzatore. Could you compare a little for me or are they both equally nice? Thanks!!!

Without wanting to denigrate the Monastero, it's relatively simple... whereas the Mezzatorre is a long way upmarket!

That's where, for instance, Jennifer Lopez and family chose - and a good proportion of the guests will moor up their yachts in the bay, and come ashore to enjoy a stay at the hotel....

Not quite worlds apart, but almost?

The island has a few other hotels at that level - these are the ones that come to mind immediately:

They'll probably have left by the time you arrive, but the Mezzatorre's been in the news recently:

Evidently where that yacht was going when it motored past when we plebs were lunching at Ponte....

Hi

I agree with all the comments here and found the whole forum fascinating especially the link to the Fiat 500 advert and the Jennifer Lopez article. The Mezzatorre hotel in Forio is available as a full package holiday with Citalia and costs just under 3 grand each for two weeks with a side sea view in July. We seriously considered it for our next holiday but opted for the Continental Mare at a third of the cost. It's a bit of a walk uphill from Ischia port, some of the Tripadvisor reviews are not great, and I don't think we'll be meeting J Lopez but we have a sea view balcony and saved a fortune.

We've been to Capri a few times on day trips and think it's great but on one occasion, two friends of ours had three gin and tonics each at an ordinary, nothing special, street café. The waiter went past with sea bass and my pal liked the look of it so he ordered two sea bass with all the trimmings without looking at the menu. (He was on a sea food diet - see food and eat it, boom boom.) The total bill was 280 Euros! I hope that gives some idea of the prices in Capri.

Eddie & Lynn - re the sea bass thing - same thing happened to me in Venice. The fish looked great, I ordered it - and paid the price - 60 euros. I have since found out (via the forums) that fish is charged per gram. Duh. Wish I knew that beforehand.
