How long ferry trip from Mykynos to Naxos

Thinking of returning to Naxos next year but may arrange everything myself.

Plan is fly from Manchester to Mykynos, ferry from Mykynos to Naxos and book accomodation direct.

Went this year via Santorini and found ferry trip rather long-anyone know usual arrangements from Mykynos - cost, frequency, journey time etc?

Cheers

Which month are you planning to go? Ferry frequencies change considerably through the year. Right now, in end September there is only one ferry (high speed catamaran) on this route - SeaJets Superjet - running from Mykonos to Naxos 4 days a week. The journey takes about 35-40 minutes and costs about 28 euro pp. In high season (end June- beginning of September) the ferries are daily and apart from the catamarans there are also slow car ferries for half the price but taking about twice as long.

There are no direct flights from Manchester to Mykonos next year,Thomson have pulled the flights from Manchester and Gatwick.Only alternative is to fly to Santorini from Manchester or via London G.atwick with easyjet to Mykonos ,Santorini, and Athens ,and easyjet Manchester to Athens and the ferry or flight with Olympic or Aegean

The ferry trip from Santorini to Mykonos may be rather long, but I would still recommend going that way. There aren't many direct ferries between Mykonos and Naxos, and there isn't a car ferry every day, the others are small catamarans which aren't good in windy weather. From Santorini there is a daily Blue Star ferry. Also, as grecophile says, there are no Manchseter to Mykonos flights next year.

Not the route you need, but the Flyingcat 4 from Paros to Mykonos was 28.50 on the 27th of September, just last month. It shouldn't be much more to Naxos, given that they are so close. And yes, it was less than an hour from Mykonos to Naxos.

Trouble is, FlyingCat 4 doesn't stop at Naxos. Superjet does, and FlyingCat 3 may stop there again next year if they repair its engine and get it operational again.

Blue Star is by far a much better option for trips from Santorini to Naxos. It takes only 2 hrs and sails in all but the worst weather. Views from the outside deck as it leaves the Santorini caldera, passes Ios and the Little Cyclades, then negotiates the strait between Paros and Naxos are spectacular.

John, you made the right decision by booking a flight to Santorini instead of Mykonos. Arrival times on the flights to Mykonos make it difficult to get a ferry to Naxos the same day. :o)

Heimdall, you have me curious now. We went from Mykonos to Santorini, with a stop at Naxos, just 12 days ago. We were on that Superjet. We were supposed to leave Mykonos in the afternoon, but the day before our departure, our ferry tickets showed up as leaving in the morning, on the Superjet. We met other people in line in the same situation, thinking they still had a whole morning and then some still on Mykonos.

Did the FlyingCat 3 recently break down? Is that why we were sent off earlier? We didn't mind having the extra time on Santorini, but just wondered why the change. And being on the Superjet, we missed seeing the views as we came into the caldera. People had the curtains pulled on both sides of the ferry. Keeping out the sun I guess.

Joan, on about the 18th September the Superjet changed it route from what it had been doing during most of the summer. So instead of going from piraeus to Mykonos via Santorini and return, it went from Pireaus to Santorini via Mykonos and return. Hence the morning departure from Mykonos.

The Superjet does stop at Naxos but Heimdall was referring to the Flying Cat 4 which stops at Paros but not Naxos.

Flying Cat 3 has been out of action all summer. I can't remember whether it may have made a few journeys at the start of the season, but that would be nothing to do with the change of schedule for the Superjet. The catamarans do change schedules and routes near the end of the season as they don't call at smaller islands where the season has already finished, and because other catamarans have already finished sailing for the season.
