Transfer from Moutiers train station to Mottaret

It looks like we will have to pay around €200 for return transfers from the train station for a family of five. Does anyone know of a cheaper way to get to/from the station (with luggage) on a Saturday am/pm?

Many thanks

That seems a bit steep, a private taxi should be around 50€-75€ each way. You can do a search on www.findtransfers.com and see if any local companies have availability for your requested times.

The bus station is located at the train station. return price for adult is €15:45.

There are 10 buses every 45min to 1h from the station up to about 18:30.

See www.altibus.com for more details. We use them every year (including last week!)

Hope that helps.

I can't believe anyone could have the cheek to quote you 200 euros. It is a 20-minute drive.

A taxi should cost you around 55 - 60 euros (per taxi) and you can see a list of taxi companies , along with bus details and a pdf of the bus timetable on this page (snowcarbon.co.uk/ski-resorts/meribel/meribel…) which is part of a site I set up to help skiers find out about train travel and transfer options.

Agree, we did the trip yesterday from Meribel Village to Moutiers foe €10 each on a luxury bus. You can book at Gareth Moutier.

Thanks, that is very useful. It looks like the altibus timetable will be good for us. Is it best if I book tickets in advance? And are the buses reliable in relation to the published timetable?

Thanks again.

Normally we don't book in advance - there's a ticket office at Moutiers station. Having said that, 3 weeks ago, we did book in advance and the tickets arrived here in the UK within a week, as we only had a 15 mins time between the train arriving and the bus departing.

Regarding reliability.. they leave Moutiers on time, On the return, they have a habit of leaving up to 10 minutes before the published time! (we missed one bus in 2008 which must have departed 10 mins early!) In 2009 we were on a bus that left Meribel centre 5 mins before the published time, Since then we always got to the bus stop 15 mins earlier, but - as luck would have it - they all left on time (or up to 5 mins late!!).

HTH!

Thanks all. We plumped for the bus from the station to Mottaret, bought return tickets at the train station when we arrived. Five people for less than €90 - perfect. Would recommend.
