Group tips needed for time in Stowe

Hi Folks,

A group of 8 adults will be heading to Stowe from Dublin on the 27th of March to try to get some skiing in - snow depending of course!

Just looking for a couple of tips for in and around the area while we are there. We will be staying at the Stowe Mountain Lodge but Im looking to see where people would recommend in terms of eating out while there, which bars are good etc.

I was also looking to see what activities people would recommend for an afternoon off the slopes?

Any advice/tips on the area are most welcome!

Thanks in advance,

See tabs in left hand column of this page regarding restaurants and things to do..As they are listed by town, you will want to know other towns geographically close to consider for options as well- look for the drop down menu in the Vermont forum for other towns to choose from. In the case of Stowe, Waterbury Ctr, and Waterbury are close by. A little farther away, but possibly worthy of consideration are Burlington, Montpelier, Warren and Waitsfield. Quite a bit farther away is Woodstock, Quechee and Norwich.

Depends on what you'd like to do....

Hiking: Stowe and the vicinity are among the best in the state. Let us know what kind of trails you'd like. Walking up Rt 108 (closed in winter slightly north of Stowe ski area) is wonderfully scenic, with sheer cliffs on each side.

Sightseeing: Walking on the Stowe rec path is superb as well. (anyone can direct you there)

Art: There are some great sculptures along the rec path, and a few nice galleries on Rt. 108 just north of Rt. 100.

Pubs and eateries: Stowe isn't bad, with pubs like the Shed (w/ their own on site brews), The Matterhorn (a great local dive), the Rusty Nail and others. Food choices are decent - our fav is Trattoria la Festa.

For a road trip, Burlington is a nice choice ~45 min drive away. It's got 3-4X the pubs and restaurants of Stowe, and a lively music scene at night. There are several great clubs along Church St. in the center of town.
