Ok, we think instead of a ski weekend we'd like to try snowmobiling. Can anyone recommend a few names of some places in and around Stowe (we'll have a car) that we can rent them for a few hours?

Go to the Attractions section of www.VermontVacationPlanner.com and click on Umiak Outfitters. (You can also find loding options on this site.) They offer snowmobile and snowshoe tours around Stowe. (There are over 5,000 miles of VT snowmobile trails in some very remote areas, so a guided tour is a good idea.)

Have fun!

Umiak doesn't rent snowmobiles though, they go on a guided two and a half hour group tour down through Cottonbrook, which is nice. I'm not sure if the Nichols' are going to set up their snowmobile trail out in the Field this year or not, I know last year burned him out, but this winter is much better, so we'll see.

If you don't have your own snowmobile, your options are pretty limited, but if you do, the VAST (Vermont Association of Snowmobile Travelers) has an excellent website..http://www.vtvast.org which should give you all the info you need.

Commodore's Inn btw is extremely "snowmobile friendly" and hass access to all the VAST trails directly from their property.
