Visiting in Mid-April- what to do?

Hi all,

We are visiting Stowe in mid April and are looking for suggestions for activities/ places to eat/ etc. We are definitely willing to travel around the area/ state and use Stowe as a base during our long weekend.

We are looking to relax, but also discover things that are off the beaten path (especially food/wine related).. . we love to do scenic drives, hikes etc.

Any suggestions are welcome :) Thanks!

Check out the Boyden Valley Winery in Cambridge, VT. It's at the intersection of Route 15 and 107. When you look at your map, keep in mind that Route 108 from Stowe to Jeffersonville may be closed in April. It closes in the winter and not sure when it opens back up again.

In Morrisville, you can go to the Rock Art Brewery and taste their beer offerings. You can drive over to Cabot and visit the Cabot Creamery. There are a couple wineries in the Champlain Islands, but its a bit of a drive (though beautiful) from Stowe.

Check otu the Alchemist in Waterbury for dinner. I've heard nothing but great things about it and am looking forward to trying it myself!

If you are looking for a great meal (it won't be cheap) try Steve and Erika's at the Ten Acres Lodge. We love the place....not an extensive menu but whatever they offer is done well...we have never been disappointed!

If you want pure relaxation, try the Stoweflake spa---need to book your massages etc in advance to your trip! It's something I never go without when I visit Stowe---

There's a lot to do in Stowe---look for the recreation path that runs along the river for walks, snowshoeing or cross country skiing!

Enjoy!

How about some Spa time at Topnotch, there facilited are great, then follow it up with a great dinner at Normas(also at Top notch)-there food and wine selection is great.

Blue Moon for dinner is worth a trip to the village as well.

Enjoy

Hi

I dont know if you have children with you but ours liked the visit to Ben & Jerrys factory - especially the samples at the end!

Also, when we went to stowe one year at the beginning of April and the snow was not too good for sking we went to see the maple syrup being collected and made at The Trapp Family Lodge . Also we hired bikes and had a bike ride along the recreational path, which was good.

Hope this helps.

Hi,

You might want to check out a sugar house - watch maple syrup being made, it's kind of cool. Morse Farm isn't far from Stowe - http://www.morsefarm.com/ Normally I'd say sugaring would be done by mid April but it's been pretty cold so far this march so it might still be happening.

Vermont Specialty Food Days at Stowe Mountain Resort is on Apr. 7th.

If you're interested in cheesemaking, check out the Vermont Cheese Trail Web site: www.vtcheese.com/vtcheese/trail/trail.html

We'll probably also still be skiing in mid-april, if you're interested!

Trapp Family Lodge holds wine tastings on alternate Tuesdays.

Cold Hollow Cider Mill in Waterbury Center is another touristy food stop.

Laughing Moon Chocolates in Stowe does chocolate dipping demonstrations & tours. I think they offer seminars too if you want to learn to do it yourself. http://www.laughingmoonchocolates.com/

There are more Spring suggestions here: http://www.greenmountaininn.com/spring.html

Have a great time!
