April skiing

Being an accountant it is difficult to get away for an 8 hr trip to take my kids skiing until after April 15th. Is that possible at Killington?

Some part of Killington is likely to be open, no guarantees as to conditions and I would not make a noncancellable reservation.

Combination of weather and how long they can hold onto employees who have to start their spring jobs all matter.

Possible? Yes. Worthwhile? Dunno. We've skied into May at the K many times [also raced the May Day race a bunch of times]. The novelty of spring conditions has mostly worn off on us. But, if its the ONLY time you can go, then yes, there's usually some terrain open [intermediate or advanced terrain only].

For my money, I'd head out west for the spring ski season. Lots of open terrain, ultra cheap lift tickets. We've skied Vail in late April and Colorado areas in June & July. MUCH better experiences than anywhere in the Northeast. Reward yourself for all that hard work!

Just looked up Old Bethpage on the map. There is NO WAY that trip should take 8 hours, unless you are a glutton for punishment and leave at the height of rush hour.

EDIT: And even at rush hour, it shouldn't take that long, unless there is also a snowstorm.

Maybe OP meant 8 hours round trip. That would be about right in good traffic conditions. However, you underestimate rush hour on Sunday late afternoon that heads back towards NYC from the NYS Thruway, with the traffic at Exit 15 near Woodbury Commons. It can add hours to the trip to points south of that exit, as the traffic normally gets backed up for many miles late sunday afternoon. BTDT.
