We are first time visito New England and will be staying at Smugglers Notch the first full week of October, We will be taking day trips to experience all the beauty and charm of that area. Recommendations on where to go, what to see and must try restaurants would be greatly

appreciated. We are older and will not be doing strenuous activities but welcome all recommendations.

I suggest you take a trip over the Notch into Stowe for sure. Plenty to see and do there and excellent restaurants. What type of things were you thinking of? You could also take a day trip into Burlington and go the the Shelburne Museum.

Agreed re: Stowe (#1) and Burlington #2. In Stowe, the rec path is beautiful for walking, and the Gondola and Toll Road are spectaular ways to see views from at/near the top of Mt. Mansfield with little-no effort. There are lots of fun artsy shops in Both Stowe & BTV as well.

Jay Peak / Montgomery is really nice too. The restaurant at Jay has a Friday deal that includes dinner and a gondola ride. You get up to the top of the mountain and you can see into 3 states and 2 countries. It's pretty great.

A great day trip is to start at Smuggs, go over the Notch into Stowe and then north on Rt 100. In Morrisville, take Rt 15 west through Hyde Park and Johnson. That brings you back to Jeffersonville and then back up to Smuggs.

It's a beautiful drive. Nice things to stop and see along the way. Have dinner at The Hub in Johnson. Stop in at antique stores or other nice little shops.

Thank you for all your wonderful suggestions. Being first timers to New England we don't want to miss anything. Would you recommend going into Canada for a day? We also would consider doing a lake cruise if within our area. We will fly into Boston, rent a vehicle and spend two days seeing Mass and NH before arriving at Smugglers. Any other suggestions to consider on those two days would be appreciated.

If you are driving up thru New Hampshire, drive to Smugglers' via Franconia Notch. Very pretty, and some cute towns along the way.

The lake cruise in Burlington is fun - a nice 1-2 hour narrated tour. Plus Burlington itself is fun and has some excellent pubs, art & restaurants. It's about 1 hour's drive from Smuggs.
