The tour at the tabernacle is about half an hour. It is interesting to learn a little about the pioneers in St George. They will talk doctrine there if you have questions.

At the temple the tour would be through the visitor center as only members in good standing go in the temple. The visitor center is staffed by full time missionaries and would be a better place for learning about beliefs. Plan an hour.

If you can't do both then at least drive by both. You could also just stop by the tabernacle for a look in and not do a tour.

The Tour of the Visitors Center would likely be more interesting as they have a nice video ect to look at and a Statue that is quite beautiful.

Although you would not be able to take a tour inside the actual Temple, you can freely walk around the outside and grounds of the Temple, its quite beautiful especially since its white, and set against the Red Mountains surrounding it

Heres more info about the visitor center at the Temple.

If you have the time for two things, I would suggest the Temple Visitors Center and Brigham Youngs Winter Home, its such a comfortable front Porch area to sit outside, and the inside of the home has some interesting furniture, and period pieces, my favorite is the large bedroom upstairs, it really feels as if you have stepped back in time.

The Tour usually only takes about 20 min.
