Park City April 25-28

A friend and I are meeting in Park City next weekend. We were hoping to spend time outside (hiking or walking through town), enjoy great meals, visit a spa and generally relax. Will many places be shut down now that the skiing is closed? Any suggestions on what to do/see?

It is the shoulder season. Some restaurants and also resorts like The Montage are closed for various lengths of time. Definitely will be slower than winter or summer.

It's not really a great time for hiking in the area, as there is still snow blanketing the mountains' east and north facing slopes. A better bet for hiking would be go to Salt Lake and west facing slopes. Options would be the Living Room, Grandeur Peak, and Little Black Mountain.

Same thing with a lot of the mountain biking trails. The higher elevations still have several feet of snow. Ones like the Rail Trail will be fine. There will be lower elevation options and SLC ones like the Shoreline Trail that will be in good condition.

Some restaurants will still be open and you may be able to find great deals in local magazines and newspapers. 50% off vouchers and the like. No Name Saloon is a great bar on Main Street with a nice rooftop deck. Walking around Main Street will be fine with plenty of shops and galleries still open.

For spas try Remedy at St. Regis or the one at the Waldorf Astoria Canyons.

You could check out the Olympic Park and Museum and see if the bobsled is still running. PCMR might have the Alpine Coaster and zip lines operational. There is a Ghost Tour that parades through some local mining history. A hot air balloon ride or sky diving might be an option. Try a company like All Seasons Adventures and see what they have going.

And as I mentioned SLC will have more options for live music, hiking, and biking right now. You could also take a Tram Ride at snowbird for 11,000 foot mountain views. If you ski or ride, the mountain will still be open and is the only game around unless you are hiking in the back country. Might want to check out visitparkcity.com as a good resource.

You'll find plenty to do here. Nearly all restaurants are still and most have 2-for-1 coupons in the Park Record. Shake801 gave you great spa recommendations, just check to be sure but I think all are open. We presently have no snow whatsoever in town but it's fairly constant from the 7,500 foot level and up. While you won't find many of the mountain trails to be attractive right now, the entire trail that runs from Kimball Junction into town is in fantastic shape for a walk or renting a mountain bike from White Pine Touring in town. Another trail network that's in great (dry) shape right now is Round Valley. Here's a link to an interactive trail map that will give you current conditions.

Yah, it's slow season but take advantage of no lines, lower prices and some peace and quiet. You'll have a wonderful time.

Have fun.

I hope this helps as well. Park City has over 130 restaurants and granted some are closed during the off season. Here is a link to the Spring Restaurant Closures so you can plan your evenings.

How about a concert?

Restless Heart is playing over the weekend.

Many of our trails are perfect for hiking and biking right now, you'll just have to stay off the steeper ones for now. MountainTrails.org gives a daily update on our trails best for biking. Here's their link:

Be sure to plan some time on Historic Main Street on Sunday, April 27th. April 27: Spring Sale – The ski season has ended, and Main Street merchants need to clear out the “winter wear” to make room for spring and summer merchandise. Find great deals on next winter’s favorites.

Hope that helps!

Have a great weekend.

Lots of great advice has been already given.

So, not sure what you are interested in but there are some cool yoga places (The Shop) or other activities going on. Visit the MONTAGE for Apero or check out if you can use a day pass for their pool/Spa - awesome... Many resorts such as Grand Summit offer huge units incl resort access to 24/7 gym and pool and spa at rates lower than the Holiday inn express - great way of taking advantage of a luxury stay ;-)
