Park City area day hike with kids

2 adults and 4 children ages 9 to 16 are looking for a hike near the Park City or Salt Lake City area. Probably looking at 3 to 5 mile roundtrip. Would like nice views or a view of waterfalls, trip to a lake. We have hiked to Timpanagos Cave 3 years ago, so we could do something more ambitious this time.

Are you basing in Salt Lake? A really nice waterfall hike that fits your plan, maybe a bit short, is Stewart Falls at Sundance. You can access it from several trailheads. We ususally just go from Sundance Resort, although the resort is not overly keen on that access unless you take their lift up. It's a little over a mile in, the waterfall is great, and there's not a ton of elevation change - a bit uphill.

Another good hike in Park City is Rob's Trail located in Bear Hollow behind the Utah Olympic Park. Access via the road by the Park City Nursery. You can go as long or short as you like. It's a bit over a mile up to a nice vista overlooking Canyons Resort.

You can checkout more trails (we have 400 miles) for Park City at MountainTrails.org.

Have fun.

If you're going to be in Salt Lake area then I'd suggest either White Pine Lake or Red Pine Lake hikes up Little Cottonwood Canyon. www.trails.com/tcatalog_trail.aspx…

After your hike you could stop by Snowbird Ski Resort (also up Little Cottonwood Canyon) and have a nice lunch.

Big Cottonwood Canyon also has a nice simple hike to a waterfall called Doughnut Falls. www.trails.com/tcatalog_trail.aspx…

Thanks for your great suggestions. We were also thinking of similar hike ( 3 to 5 miles) in the Uintas Mountains east of Park City. Any ideas for hikes in those areas would be appreciated.

The Ontario hike at Deer Valley is great. It is 2.5 miles long and has an elevation increaser of about 900 feet. You can take the lift down, or hike down the Silver Lake trail. Trail head begins at the Silver Lake Village just beyond the Sterling Express lift. The terrain changes 3-4 times during the hike, it is beautiful and challenging.
