Four wheel drive versus convertible

We are looking at a road trip which involves San Diego Palm Springs monument valley bryce Zion and on to Las Vegas .

In the past on our road trips we have hired a convertible and love this but are wondering if we need a four wheel drive for the canyon lands part of our trip.

We aren't bothered about doing off the beaten track places but want to be able to take in all the major places of interest,

Time of year September, help appreciated, also any tips on best places to stay around MV, Zion, and Bryce, towns etc with eating places.

Thanks

It sounds like you aren't planning on doing any off-roading, so I would stick with the convertible. Driving through Zion Canyon with the top down would be a wonderful way to see the canyon.

You can do all drives with a convertible but stay out of the rough dirt road into Monument Valley with it. Best is to take a guided tour there from the visitor center. Make a reservation for MV for The View or Goulding's Lodge. Zion and Bryce also can still be busy in september.

Make note of Monument Valley above and the roads to expect there. The main scenic drives through the NP's are paved, as is the highways between them.

Stay in Springdale for Zion, and Bryce Canyon City for Bryce, namely one of the three Ruby's establishments,

Alternatively both above listed parks have their own in park lodges.

Book a back country tour at Monument Valley and you'll be fine with the sports car everywhere else.

If you are not offroading, convertible would do.
