thanks in advance ....traveling August 3-17. start and end at Green River UT. Would like to see Arches,Canyonlands, Bryce. Zion. North Rim Grand Canyon and possibly Monument Valley. Have reservations at North rim on the 12th. Otherwise at this point am open to suggestions on the most scenic routes and would like to know the best place to spend a few days in one place from which to explore a surrounding area

Hi peggy. Welcome to the forum.

So two week, more or less. That is a pretty good amount of time for touring southern UT northern AZ.

I couple of good resources to aid with your planning are the Trip Report Archives located at the top of the UT forum and the Top Questions located in the right-hand column of the UT forum. The first item in the Top Questions is "How can I see all of the parks in southern Utah?" and it includes links to maps and sample itineraries. Granded none of the routes start/end in Green River, but you can still use the maps and routes as a guide and just inset your start/end point where ever you like.

I was going to say that lodging will be the pacing item if you are coming this year, and it seems that you are. But you have the first critical lodging location covered at the North Rim. The next one is Monument Valley, if you want to be close to the park. The View is the only loding in the park and it is worth the extra cost, IMO. Gouldings is the next closest lodging option.

As for places to stay a few days, the two that come to mind are Moab, UT (Arches and Canyonlands National Parks, Dead Horse Point State Park, plus a lot of other interesting stuff in the immediate area) and Page AZ (Antelope Canyon, Lake Powell, Glen Canyon and GC dam, Horseshoe Bend....a lot of things to see and do).

What are your interests? hiking? biking? photography? rafting? how you plan to spend your time will dictate how you plan the trip.

As noted, lots of info in the upper right links and you have a decent amount of time to visit many sites.

Just curious as to you starting/ending in Green River. Are you arriving by train? If so, curious to know if you were able to figure out a rental car. We visit Green River and the area often.

Have fun.
