quick grocery stop en route from Vegas to Bryce & Red Canyon

hi, can any of you helpful folk recommend anywhere to pull off for a few groceries on our way to Bryce? We don't need a big shop, just bread, milk, cheese for a couple of picnics and would rather buy it before we get to Rubys, but don't want too much of a detour into a town. Also, we're wanting to rent some decent mountain bikes for Red Canyon, any recommendations? Thanks.

Hello (again !),

There are certainly other smaller options of course later on, but there is a Walmart on Highway 9, just on the left, about 3 miles before Hurricane (ie pre-Zion)....

Can't speak for bike hire, sorry !

[Enjoy the Burr Trail !]

There is not much in the way of groceries between Zion and Bryce. There is the previously mentioned Wal Mart in Hurricane,Sol Foods Market has two locations in Springdale, or there a a small convenience/grocery inside Rubys at Bryce.

They rent bikes at Rubys or they may also have them near the gas station across from Rubys. Then you either need to ride to Red Canyon, or find a way to transport them. The Red Canyon paved bike trail is down Hwy 12 a ways from Rubys.Going east to west is a nice downhill cruise thru Red Canyon.

You can also ride the x-country ski trail across the street from Rubys.

Thanks for the help, we'd be driving to Bryce from Vegas, so didn't really want to drive much off the highway. Wondered if there was anything at Cedar City, just a small store but something that's possibly a bit cheaper and more choice than the one at Ruby's. Hubby is an avid mountain biker so it was more full suspension bikes we'd need, hopefully there may be something as we drive through on our way to Ruby's.

At the first Cedar City exit there's also a Walmart Supercenter (to the west) plus two regional grocery store chains Fresh Market and Smith's (to the east). Ruby's rents bikes and has a shuttle. Not sure if they have full suspension, but would suspect they do. The full suspension really wouldn't be necessary if you're riding the primary Red Canyon trail, but would be an asset for some of the others.

Have fun, we were just down there a couple days ago.

Yah, that's a great ride. I haven't done it but am familiar with it. He would want to have a better bike and I'm sure it's available. Here's some trail info.
