What not to miss between Zion and Bryce

We have a circulatory route planned starting and ending in LV and will be travelling from Zion to Bryce at one stage. Is there anything we should definitely not miss stopping to enjoy when travelling between the two.

Well, that answers my question from your post on the trip form BC to Page; glad to see that Zion is part of the overall itinerary.

When leaving Zion, head out route 9 through the tunnel to the east entrance, then north oin 89 to BC. If you have not already done so, take the hike to Canyon Overlook in Zion. The trailhead is just past the tunnel (east of the tunnel). It is not a long hike and gives you a view from the overlook. Figure about an hour or so for this little excursion.

You should definitely plan at least a short stop at Red Canyon, right on the way, just before you get to Bryce. Beautiful! Stop at the visitor's center for info on trails, etc. We just made a brief stop and took a short walk, but we got some of the best photos of our 16-day trip right there.

Besides those you could stop at the rock shops in Orderville.

Thanks for the information.

I'm trying to get as much from the guide books we have but I find personal recommendation means that sometimes you see something that is wonderful and the guide books just leave out.

Where is Red Canyon? Is it a state park? What road/route to find it?

We leave Saturday to spend 4 nights at Byrce and 3 at Zion. Sounds like a stop at Red Canyon would be a perfect side trip!

Thanks in advance!

Red Canyon is on Hwy 12 between Hwy 89 and Bryce. Can't miss it , you drive right thru it. Nice visitor center and some hiking trails. If you have a bike and want a nice down hill cruise for a few miles on a paved trail, have someone drop you off and ride east to west the length of the canyon.

Just before you leave Zion stop at Checkerboard Mesa off ut9. In Mt Carmel you'll turn left on us89. With the mountains on your left hand side there's meandering Sevier River on your right hand side. Looking to the east you'll see the red peaks of Bryce Canion NP already. Turn east on ut12 and you'll climb to Red Canyon. Too many people rush between Zion and Bryce and never take notice of the great views. In Red Canyon is a very good and helpful visitor center. Always a must stop for us.

Our itinerary was this:-

Day 1 arrive in Las Vegas

Day 2 LV

Day 3 LV - helicopter flight over Grand Canyon and rafting down Black Canyon from base of Hoover Dam

Day 4 LV

Day 5 LV to Zion National park (Springdale)

Day 6 Zion

Day 7 Zion to Bryce Canyon

Day 8 Bryce Canyon

Day 9 Bryce Canyon to Page (Lake Powell)

Day 10 Page - Antelope Canyon tour and visit to Horseshoe Bend

Day 11 Page to Monument Valley

Day 12 Monument Valley to Grand Canyon (south rim)

Day 13 Grand Canyon to LV

The only thing I would suggest would be another day at Grand Canyon. We had been there before so this was only a flying visit to remind ourselves of the beauty of this part of the world. The distances travelled to get to and from the Grand Canyon on this itinerary did not allow for as much exploration as we had enjoyed on our previous visit.
