This beach town SUCKS. Restrauants are non accommodating. Sea weed on beach. No convince stores available. Do not stay here or come here.
Stayed on Surfside a couple years a go in a beach front rental.
The seaweed is a seasonal occurrence that happens along a huge portion of the Texas coast. Happens several times a year. It helps with erosion and builds the beaches up, very important in a hurricane impact zone.
As for no stores, there were a couple years back. Restaurants were busy as it was high season, but not rude.
Personally I have not been back to Surfside because the beach width was small (erosion and this was after they spent a ton on bringing in sand so there would be a beach) and a different kind of crowd and is further for me to drive than Bolivar.
Sorry you had a bad time.
