BEWARE - Electronics shops - Including VISANTA

I live in the canaries, and from experience I'd say that Visanta are JUST as bad as the other Electronic shops...

Buy ANYTHING of value here at your own risk...

especially off-brand goods.

The canaries are to all purposes exempt from EU wide consumer protection laws.

If it looks cheap, then there's a catch, always.

These shops are set up to sell to holiday makers,

so long as the items on sale last until you go home, they DON'T CARE.

The customer service in the tourist areas its non-existent.

just to repeat..

VISANTA are not an exception to the "beware electronic shops" rule, they are part of it.

Just to be clear, the Canaries are not exempt from EU law. Your problem as a holidaymaker is in enforcing your rights with a dodgy trader.

Small shops in the South are high risk unless you know exactly what you're buying and how much it should cost, and you need to check the goods before you leave the shop.

If you're at all concerned, take a trip to somewhere like Carrefour or Alcampo, or to electronics retailers like MediaMarkt in Las Palmas. And if you buy anything from El Corte Inglés, they operate a policy similar to department stores in the UK.

It really surprises me that people should need a warning about buying in these types of shops. If they were in the UK would they go to the 50p & £1 shops and expect to get the genuine article. Why do they slip into a different mindset when on holiday?

As Tig would say - 'Just because it advertises Persil on the side of the bus you don't shove your washing in'.
