Is Maspalomas like PDLA Tenerife

Fancy a change of island. Is it similar in tone to plays de las America? I rather like it’s low brow style of British bars/chippies/Chinese buffet places. And im after sun, cheap alcohol and basically nothing to see so I spend time relaxing not sightseeing. Cheers.

Robert, you've posted in the Playa del Ingles forum, but then referred to Maspalomas - two different places. Which are you considering?

Not sure what happened. I’m referring to Maspalomas and the area around Yumbo centre.

The area around the Yumbo is PDI, not really Maspalomas, as such. Maspalomas is the quieter area behind the dunes.

Maspalomas is made up of wasteland and accommodation, theres nothing there and you will have to take buses and taxis everywhere, Puerto Rico, is the place to be for your British bars, chippies and Chinese buffet's

You need to be clear on where you are going. These places are very different. Maspalomas is very quiet and few bars or restaurants away from the beach strip. The beach is great.

Playa del Ingles and Yumbo is lively and full of bars restaurants shops etc and again a great beach. PDI is similar to PDLA. Maspalomas is not.

The Spanish love confusing people with place names and they look to have scored well here.

Maspalomas is the whole area from San Agustin to Meloneras or was last November. The area being rubbished by radgiepacket is Maspalomas Golf or Oasis

If you are checking out accommodation look on the map for anywhere near the Kasbah centre which also gives easy access to Anexo 2 where you will find cheap beer and chips. If you look around the Yumbo it is a little more upmarket, but not a lot, and better if you are gay. The main road at the back of the Yumbo takes you down to the Anexo 2 and the beach. You won't have any difficulty finding everything on your list.

Never heard Maspalomas described as ' wasteland and accommodation' before.

Anyway, Playa del Ingles is separated from Maspalomas by a ridge. Unlike other mainland Spanish town, it has been purpose built, with commercial centres being the main places for shopping and entertainment.

Maspalomas has developed in a similar way, but in recent years there has been massive investment with the resort of Melonares, which you can walk into (and not see where one ends and the other starts)

You asked weather it was like PDLA, well the sands are golden in colour for start. There are a big mixture of visitors as the climates are similar. Depending on when you go it can be very busy, but there are a wide range of hotels and self catering places, and it is pretty easy to walk about.

Robert W, Puerto Rico, is closer to Las Americas in Tenerife than Playa Del Ingles, you won't find many British bars or 1.50 euro pints in Playa Del Ingles

GAZEFC1, the OP wants the typical Brits abroad experience, trashy pubs, chippies and 1.50euro pints, don't think he's too interested about the history of Maspalomas sand dunes, or the rip off prices of Meloneras
