The main strip in Morro Jable seemed a tad pricey to us during a day trip there last October. As you seem to be mainly focused on some outstanding beaches, Greg, how about simply making up a picnic from Spar or Hiperdino? There's a good Spar en route in CC Bahia Calma just up from the Costa Calma Palace hotel.
There are plenty of places to choose from along the front in Jandia, although you could certainly take a picnic. Make sure you allow enough time for the trip to Cofete, it took us nearly an hour each way along a very hairy dirt track road. Worth it though- the views and the beach are spectacular; just don't count on taking a swim there as the sea is lethal.
I`ve been to Cofete before in 2010, so know the dirt track around the mountain. My girlfriend had her eyes shut most of the time.
We are going back to show our friends the breathtaking views and to take just a paddle in the sea ;)
We visited Cofete the weekend of june 24th and were disappointed with the place, its a hard challenging drive with a spectacular view of the beach from up on the mountainside, but it was full of folk who must have been there for midsummers night or something because the place was full of campers who dumped their rubbish all over the place, paper, plastic bags and bottles littered the whole area just behind the beautiful beach, louts were tearing up and down the beach on quads and MX bikes, blokes urinating anywhere handy, we stayed just long enough to dip our toes and were glad to get away.
Cofete itself ?, well.........i was half expecting Tuco and Clint Eastwood to appear for a shootout.......... the trip did end on a happy note though, we were heading back and came upon a old guy on a quad with a goat in a box on the back, the man was wearing a trilby hat and was fastening a crash helmet onto the goats head !!!!!.Edited: 6:51 am, June 28, 2012
