One Week in Houston

Hello,

We are visiting a friend in Houston for a week in November and are looking for suggestions on what to do and where to eat (and drink!) while in town.

Hi M,

This is a website that you can save, and input your dates in, closer to your travel date:

http://upcoming.yahoo.com/search/?loc=Houston%2C+TX&quick_date=next_30_days&sort=relevance

Here's another search engine good for finding things to do in H=town:

visithoustontexas.com/travel-tools/events/

There is always a good reason to visit Midtown (Christian's Tailgate bar, and the Blackfinn restuarant and bar, to name 2 of many bars that are in the area, and many walkable from one to the other.)

Also, Washington Avenue; we really enjoy the food at Laurenzo's; amazing burgers, prime rib burrito, anda good casual atmosphere:

http://www.laurenzos.net/

The museum district is good for seeing some of our local culture; especially The Museum of Natural History, and all it has to offer.

Then, there's the Ren Fest; always fun,and enjoyable especially when the weather is great:

November can be a really comfortable weather month; jeans and a t-shirt, with a tshirt or medium weight jacket in the morning, and evening, and we can often leave the jacket behind after about 10am, and enjoy a sunny, cool day.

If you all can drive somewhere, I suggest Austin for its' change in scenery (Hill Country), and lots of good live music, not to mention laid back...everything!

Hope you have a great visit!

cc,

Cupcake

Houston is very diversed and you can pretty much find anytime of food. You should obviously try some BBQ, a good steak, Cajun and Tex-Mex. Also check out the Chinatown. For drinking Washington Ave is the place.

BBQ - Luling's, Goode Company

Steak - Pappa's Bros

Cajun - Goode Company Sea Food

Tex-Mex - Pappasita's, 100% Taquito

I am sure others will give you other names. Also go to b4-u-eat.com for more info.

T'Afia--Monica Pope is the chef/owner; another big name on the food scene

It really depends on your budget. Brennan's is a good restaurant.

One of my favorite US museums in in Houston- the Museum of Fine Arts. If you like musuems, don't miss this one. http://www.mfah.org/

If you're into space, don't forget that NASA's Johnson Space Center is just up the road. Can be a fun day, imho. :) www.nasa.gov/centers/johnson/home/index.html

November is a great time to visit!

If you are into craft beers and delicious burgers, I would highly recommend Petrol Station. It is the definition of a hole in the wall place within a neighborhood. You can see my picture in the review I gave on TA.
