July 4th - Houston/Galveston & Will there be fireworks?

HI TA.

Im coming to Houston/Galveston on a roadtrip across the USA this summer, and was expecting to celebrate the 4th in Houston/Galveston. We love a good fireworks show, but recently i've read that many cities in Texas have forbidden the use of fireworks on July 4th due to the dry conditions??!

We would feel really sorry to miss the celebration, and just wish a good time on this special day. Could any of you recommend, where to stay on the 4th, will there be any show to see, or should we just move along our roundtrip and drive to San Antonio and see it there (if theres anything to see?)

Thanks for your answers in advance

Best Regards

Hi Martin,

There are often fireworks at the Boardwalk area of Galveston:

http://kemahboardwalk.com/events.asp

check with that website, as we get closer to July, for more detailed information.

There are also some great fireworks downtown, which is much more corwded, but good fireworks, if you plan to get into the city a few hours early, to wait for the show, and other areas have fireworks too:

abclocal.go.com/ktrk/story…

this is information from last year, but our news stations will surely carry up to date info, closer to 7/4. Last year, due to our severe drought, most fireworks were banned because of the chance of fires started by the sparks. Hopefully, this year, we will have normal rain.

Enjoy Houston! remember that it will be very hot during the day, so plan for cool museums, indoor fun, or being by or IN the water, during the daylight hours. :)

Last year we had a very severe drought, so personal fireworks were banned in order to prevent fires. Many smaller city shows were also cancelled. So far, we are having a wet winter and if it keeps up we should be able to have both personal and municipal fireworks displays this summer.

There are several good shows in the area: The Woodlands (north of downtown), Kemah (south of downtown and on the waterfront), and downtown (huge crowds and lots of live country music).

Have a great time and come back this summer to let us know how it was.
