Where to stay 2 days with small children?

We are starting in Dallas and driving to Galveston for a couple of nights but Im not familiar with anything about this city so I need to know where to stay and what to do with a 2yr old and 5 year old they would just be happy with water? We live in Minnesota so it will be considered HOT for us if its 70s?

If you want to stay directly on the beach, stay at the SeaScape Condos. They have a private beach and kitchen facilities, but are about 15-20 minutes from the main part of Galveston's seawall.

There are no hotels directly on the beaches, you will have to stay across Seawall Blvd. Try the La Quinta, Country Inn & Suites, Holiday Inn Resort, Hilton or splurge at San Luis.

For the kids, Schlitterbahn waterpark, Moody Gardens, the Pleasure Pier and the ferry ride to Bolivar Peninsula. The ferry you can walk or drive on, but bring bread so the kids can feed the seagulls. Sometimes you will see dolphins, too.

For restuarants, you can't beat Papa's Pizza on the seawall. Treat the kids and yourselves to La King's Confectionary for old-fashioned ice-cream shop style and homemade candy and ice cream. This is located in the Strand area.

Welcome to Texas!!

Check out the Victorian and Casa del Mar. Both of these properties have small kitchens with refrigerator, stove, microwave and dishes, a small living room, a small bedroom for the parents and bunkbeds in the hallway for the children. The Victorian has a pool geared towards smaller children. We've always found these to be very accommodating for families. There are washers and dryers on several floors, very handy with kids.

These properties are both across the street from the beach, and you will have to cross several lanes of traffic at a crosswalk. On weekends the traffic can be very heavy. One benefit to staying along the seawall is that there are numerous restaurants, convenience stores, grocery stores, etc. within walking distance. Also, the seawall is fun for biking, jogging or riding in one of the pedal powered buggies available for rent.

When my kids were young, they just loved the beach and water. Bring some old plastic containers (like from margarine or whipped topping) and some sturdy, but cheap plastic cups to dig in the sand with. An inexpensive kite, a beach ball, snacks, water and sunscreen. That's really all they needed.

I agree with the ferry ride. I'd take the car and then drive to the Fort Travis State Park. Old fort to look at and lots of grass to run around.
