Best Beach

I will be going to Galveston in a couple of weeks, I am looking for a romantic relaxing weekend on the beach, I have heard the beaches are not very nice in Galveston because of the sea wall. Can anyone recommend a good place to stay on the beach?

The sand is brown and the water is usually brownish in color as well. Have you booked a place yet? On the east end there are some beachfront condos and the beach is pretty good there. I know several people that swear by the Hotel San Luis and Hotel Galvez, you'd have to cross the street and go down the seawall steps to access the beach from them-and pretty much any other hotel in Galveston. There are some great houses at Pirate's Beach west of the seawall with few people at the beach, further west there are houses and even a few condos in different beach communities and the beaches aren't crowded which is nice.

I just got back from Galveston. We stayed at the Islander East and the beach was nice and not crowded. It's not luxury condos, very basic. Great view from the balcony. I would recommend the Galvestonian (good reviews on this site) which is just down the beach. It was booked for our stay. Little nicer than the Islander East but about the same beach experience.
