hurricane Dean ............should we cancel?

We have rented a beach house starting Monday August 20th for 4 nights. Hurricane Dean could hit the Texas coast the middle of next week, but we won't know for sure probably until tuesday or so. Do we still drive down from Dallas and risk having to turn around or face evacuations? Or do we just forget the trip? I don't think we can get our money back unless there is an evacuation. Any locals have advice? We are really bummed about the whole situation.

If you're flying into Houston and renting a car, you can still have a great vacation without going to Galveston! I hope your vacation works out, but if it doesn't, there's still San Antonio or Austin. It might be worth coming up with a "plan B" that doesn't involve cancelling the whole trip.

I'm hoping for the best for both of you!! Good luck!
