Fort Worth to Memphis - where to break the journey ??

We will be travelling from Fort Worth on 19th April to Memphis to meet up with a friend on 20th April 2007 at the Heartbreak Hotel.

In no rush to get there as we will be meeting at hotel and her flight doesn't get in until around 8 pm on the 20th.

Has anyone got any ideas where we can stay enroute, we realise the journey is approx 8 hours, so anywhere interesting we should stay on the way ? We are interested in history, museums, shopping ( it's so good in USA - even my husband doesn't mind to a certain degree !! ) eating good food etc. We had thought about stopping off at Little Rock, but on a previous post someone said there isn't much there.

Any ideas gratefully received

Thanks

You might consider Hot Springs. It would be a little over 5 hours, leaving a 3 hour drive the next day. The area is very pretty, espeically near the lakes. We went there a couple of time years ago and it is an interesting town, a little touristy but we were tourists so we didn't mind ;-)

The Hot Springs forum has some good ideas about places to stay and things to do.

I live very close to Little Rock and can suggest a few things to do here. Since you like history, museums ect. William J. Clinton Presidential Center and Park might be neat to visit.

Also Arkansas Inland Maritime Museum, home to the USS Razorback, the longest-serving submarine in the world.

Central High School National Historic Site & Museum, the school became a crucial battleground in the struggle for civil rights.

Historic Arkansas Museum celebrates Arkansas' cultural and material heritage with six galleries of Arkansas art and artifacts, an interactive children's gallery, orientation theater, museum store with Arkansas products and more.

MacArthur Museum of Arkansas Military History

Museum of Discovery. Arkansas' museum of science and history, you can explore the wonders of nature, science, technology and history.

There are many more. Who ever said there isnt much here hasnt been and seen apperantly.

Hope it helps and happy traveling.
