Hi, we are renting a cabin in these mountains for the first time in winter. I am very worried about driving in the snow. We have no experience about driving in snow and ice at all. We will be staying in the cabin called Night Moves. So I would like to know how I-40 plus the next long stretch into the mountains is- late in december.

As a general rule, I-40 is fine unless you hear about a specific snow or ice storm in the area. Not sure what other roads you're talking about. We don't get THAT much snow around here so I wouldn't let it worry you too much, just check the weather before you come. You can call 511 from any phone in TN to get current road conditions, or google "tennessee road conditions" and you'll pull up some links.

If it looks questionable and you're really nervous, bring a four-wheel drive, some snow chains, and some sandbags (if you're driving a pickup, you'll want weight in the back). That will help you if you're sure you'll encounter snow, but otherwise I wouldn't fool with it.
