Fun things to do in the Pigeon Forge Area

We are planning a family get together in Pigeon Forge the week after Christmas. We will be staying in Sevierville, TN. We have 5 families with 8 kids. There are 17 of us all together. What would you all suggest we do while we are there. We will have 2 full days of fun in the mountains one being New Year's Eve!!! Is there a place there for snow activities (fake snow would be fine)

Thanks a bunch!!

As far as snow activities go, Ober Gatlinburg will be the only place that you can depend on for snow. They will be making it, if it has been cold enough. Typically the Smokies don't get snow that stays for very long at lower elevations. There are always exceptions. We went to the mountains four years in a row the week that you will be there. A lot of the oudoor stuff, go-karts, mini-golf and the like are only open on the weekends or for shorter hours during the week, dependant on the weather. Dollywood is really decorated beautifully for Christmas and would be something to consider. They usually open at 2PM and close about 7PM. It's a great time to be in the Smokies.

definitely check out Ober Gatlinburg. There is a chance they will have some real snow but if not they make it. They offer tubing, skiing, and ice skating. We like to ride the tram up the mountain, drink hot chocolate and watch. If you choose to tube make reservations because they book up quickly especially on a busy weekend. There will be a huge new years eve celebration in Gatlinburg with fireworks coming from the space needle. Check out some of the shows they all have really good Christmas versions. Take a drive through the park or the roaring fork motor nature trail.

I bet the kids would like the

free wildlife museum at the Southland Visitors Center.

34 - are you thinking of the Sugarlands Visitor Center - just inside the Gatlinburg entrance to the Park ? That is a nice museum for sure. And the Roaring Fork Motor Trail closes for Winter about 1 December - Mid March each year. The Elkmont ghost town - former summer residences located behind the Elkmont campground might be a fun place to get out and explore and not too far from Gatlinburg. At the Elkmont campground check in station, bear left for 1/2 mile to the Parking lot - you will see several of the cabins from there. By late Dec, the road to Clingman's dome will be closed also, but you can enjoy the views from the Newfound Gap Parking area on 441 betwen Gatlinburg and Cherokee - great views and depending on weather, possibly snow at that elevation.

There is a nice cave tour east of Sevierville that is inexpensive and interesting winter or summer.

The Smoky Mountain Knifeworks near Kodak has some very interesting old cutlery and new knives. Almost a museum.

The Elvis museum is very interesting if you are a fan.

Post back and let us know what all you did and how you liked the area.

I don't know how old your kids are, but Smoky Mountain Deer Farm and Petting zoo is neat as well. You buy a cup of food and walk through and feed the animals. They have all kinds of animals you can feed. Camels, miniature pony's, deer, llama, zebra, to name a few and you can even get an apple to feed the reindeer. They also have trail rides. A lot of fun!
