Hiking & Biking

Hi All,

Does anyone have any suggestions of places to bicycle with my hubby and two young sons? Cades Cove is a little much for my boys. Also, where's you favorite place for a picnic/sight seeing?

Thanks - Amye

There is a paved, walking/bike path running along both sides of the main highway through Townsend. Approx 9 miles RT. Nice way to pedal your way through town, stop at Little River Railroad Museum and swinging bridge - both free. Bike rentals available at Hearth and Kettle restaurant. Cades Cove day use/picnic area is next to small stream - great for wading and exploring. Metcalf bottoms - same setting but larger stream - (the Little River). Picnic tables/grills at both places.

A great place to picnic is in the National Park about 5 miles from Sugarlands Visitor Center on 441. It's called Chimneys Picnic Area. It used to be a campground so each site has it's own parking spot. It is situated next to a beautiful, boulder-strewn mountain stream that is a great place to rock-hop and explore. Kids love it!!
