Horseback riding and river rides

We are looking to do both during our visit and was wondering if you could recommend where to go. What stable is the best to use? What about river rafting or tubing? Any help will be greatly appreciated!

The closest whitewater rafting will be on the Pigeon River, located near I-40 between Hartford and Newport, TN. Several outfitters operate out of the Hartford area, they all run the same stretch of the river. The upper has more whitewater and is more for adults and older kids, the lower more suitable for families with younger children. USA Rafts is one of several outfitters - they also offer a pakage deal with a day of tubing on the Little River in Townsend. Lots of stables to choose from. If you will be visiting Cades Cove in the GSMNP, they operate a stable there with a trail that leads through a very nice area of the cove.

Thank you! We will be staying in Pigeon Forge from June 28-July 2. Is there any tubing companies or areas you would recommend? I would imagine that it will be pretty busy that time of year. Do any of the places take reservations? How far is Cades Cove from Pigeon Forge?

River Romp and River Rage operate in Pigeon Forge - several reviews of both here on TA. It will be busy that time of year but you will not need reservations for tubing. Cades Cove is approx 25 - 30 miles from Pigeon Forge depending on where you are in PF. From traffic light 3 on the Parkway it is about 25 miles to the CC entrance. From PF, recommend you head into Wears Valley from trafic light # 3 and either make a left on Lyons Springs into the park, then right on Little River Road, or come all the way into Townsend, then into the park and pick up Litle River Road at the Y. An early start to CC and horseback riding would put you slightly ahead of some of the crowd, then cool off in the afternoon with a tubing adventure. Some rent tubes in Townsend, put in at the Y and float all the way back to town.
